Rougaille Paneer

This dish is really easy to make, and it is my own recipe. It takes 10 minutes to prepare and 45 minutes to cook. The ingredients I used are:

  • 500g paneer, cut in cubes

  • 4 large tomatoes, roughly chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • 1 medium onion, finely diced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, finely chopped

  • 3 tbsp tomato purée

  • 100g green peas

  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 2 green chillies, halved

  • Salt

Method:

  • Add the oil to a saucepan on medium heat, and toss the garlic, onion and ginger in. Let it fry for 1 minute.

  • Add the tomatoes in, put the lid on and let it cook for 20-25 minutes until the tomatoes have fully disintegrated. Stir occasionally and add a splash of water to prevent the tomatoes from drying out.

  • Add the tomato purée, green chillies and cumin seeds. Mix thoroughly and season with salt to taste. Let it cook for 2 minutes.

  • Transfer the sauce to a blender and blitz until a smooth paste is obtained.

  • Pour the sauce back in the saucepan and add 1-2 tbsp water.

  • Toss the green peas and paneer in. Put the lid back on, and let it simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and garnish with ginger, coriander and red chilli flakes. Serve with naan bread or rice. Enjoy!
