Cari gros pois

This is my own recipe. It is really easy to make. It takes 15 minutes to prepare and 1 hour to make. The ingredients I used are:

  • 1 can of butter bean (400g)

  • 1 onion, thinly diced

  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 4 medium potatoes, cut in quarters

  • 1 tomato, chopped

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tbsp garam masala

  • 1/2 tbsp ground turmeric

  • 500ml water

  • Salt

Method:

  1. Add the oil to a saucepan on medium heat followed by the onions. Let it sauté for 2 minutes.

  2. Add the garlic and let it cook for 3 minutes. Toss the bay leaves, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, garam masala and ground turmeric in and mix altogether. Let it cook for 30 seconds before adding the tomatoes. Let it cook for 15 minutes before adding 300ml water. Stir thoroughly.

  3. Add the potatoes in, season with salt, put the lid on and let it cook for 30 minutes.

  4. Pour the remaining 200ml water in the pan and toss the butter bean in. Mix, put the lid on and let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat.

  5. Serve a generous portion and relish with flat bread and a salad of your choice. It also pairs well with rice.
